FAQ

If you're not sure whether you have rising damp, penetrating damp or a condensation issue, you're not alone. Below are answers to the most common questions we're asked by homeowners, landlords and managing agents.

How do I know if it's rising damp?

Rising damp typically appears at low level on ground-floor walls. You may see tide marks, salt deposits, bubbling paint, crumbling skirting boards or damp patches up to around 1 metre high. A survey is important because similar symptoms can be caused by leaks, bridging or condensation.

What causes penetrating damp?

Penetrating damp is usually caused by external defects allowing rainwater to enter - for example failed pointing, cracked render, damaged brickwork, poor flashing details, blocked gutters or overflowing downpipes. We focus on finding the entry point and fixing the cause.

Is black mould always a "damp proofing" problem?

Often, black mould is caused by condensation and poor airflow rather than water coming through the wall. Improving ventilation, reducing humidity and treating mould properly can stop it returning.

Do you treat condensation and ventilation issues?

Yes. We assess likely moisture sources (bathing, drying clothes, cooking), airflow and cold spots, then recommend practical improvements such as better extraction, passive vents or other changes appropriate for the property.

Do you offer damp surveys and written reports?

Yes. Our damp surveys identify the likely cause of moisture, confirm the affected areas, and outline recommended remedial work. If you need a written report (for a purchase, landlord file or to plan works), we can provide one.

Do you provide basement tanking and waterproofing?

Yes. For cellars and below-ground rooms we can install waterproofing systems such as cementitious tanking or cavity drain membranes, depending on the structure and how the space is used.

How long does damp proofing work take?

It depends on the cause and the scope. A small local repair may be completed quickly, while rising damp treatment with replastering can take longer due to preparation and drying. We'll confirm the likely timescale after inspection.

Will the damp come back?

Long-term results depend on correct diagnosis and fixing the root cause. We focus on practical, lasting solutions and clear advice to reduce the chance of recurrence.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover Kent, Surrey, Sussex and South East London, including Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Maidstone and surrounding towns and villages.
